Laser Hair Removal: your questions answered

A new year is here, happy 2020. We are experiencing warmer than normal temperatures. I'm day dreaming about spring already. Most med spas experience an increase in clients interested in laser hair removal during winter months. Laser hair removal may take several sessions to complete. If you are thinking about going razor free in the spring, now is the time to start your treatments.

1. How does laser hair removal work?

The laser hair removal machine emits energy to safely target and destroy hair follicles responsible for hair growth. There are 4 cycles of hair growth. Each cycle must receive a treatment. On average, clients require 6 treatments. Four treatments for each cycle, two extra treatments for dense areas and hair that grows off cycle.

2. Who is the ideal candidate?

People with fair skin tone and darker hair color are typically the best candidates. If you have blonde, gray or white hair, laser treatment will not work. Book a free consult to determine if you are a good consult for laser hair removal.

3. How to prepare for a laser hair removal session.

Preparing for treatment is easy, no sun exposure, waxing or plucking for 2 weeks prior to your treatment. No sun exposure 2 weeks after the treatment. Can you be outside? Yes! SPF should be your BFF everyday, but blocking the harmful sun rays is even more important to keep your skin healthy through the treatments. Many people think you need to let you hair grow in order to have the treatment. This is definitely a myth! You want to come to your appointment shaved. For example, if you are coming for bikini treatment, you would want to shave in the area of the treatment the night before your appointment.

4. Is laser hair removal painful?

As with any treatment, different people experience pain at different levels. Most describe the pulse of the laser as a rubber band snapping against the skin and the treatment is well tolerated.

5. How do I choose my provider?

Choose a provider that has experience, a high quality laser and affordable costs. Some providers rent laser equipment. This can effect overall results. If laser sessions are only offered with the "laser on loan" program, your treatment may end up less effective because your appointment is scheduled when the laser is on loan versus when your body/hair growth was ready for the treatment.

Finally, what is the cost? At SAS Med Spa, we list our prices on our website. If your area of interest is not listed or you would like to seek multiple areas of treatment book a consult and we will provide you with a package deal.
